Passion for wedding fashion

Jennifer Counchman has been making her living from wedding dresses since Prince William and Catherine Middleton were in short pants.
She has spent a lifetime dedicated to fashion, and even at the tender age of 10, had her heart firmly fixed on becoming a designer.
“I won a competition on Granada TV to design an outfit for the weathergirls and that’s where it all started,” smiled Jennifer, who grew up in Hest Bank.
Jennifer went to St Luke’s Primary School, then Morecambe High School, where she won the senior art prize.
After A-levels, she studied for a foundation in art and design at the University of Central Lancashire and went on to complete a four-year BA in fashion design, which saw her win the coveted PFAFF Prize with her design for an outfit for the Chelsea Flower Show.

Jennifer graduated in 1995, the same year as Stella McCartney, and they both unveiled their designs on the catwalk at graduate fashion week in London.
“Stella McCartney had Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell modelling for her,” said Jennifer.
“And one of my models was drunk in the bar!”
